GUIDE: adding custom variables

Adding custom variables enables you to extend the set of built-in GpsGate variables. They can be used the same way as built-in variables can be used in device mapper, status window, track points panel...

First of all, make sure all your plugins are up to date. All "green" under SiteAdmin -> Plugins.

The following steps walk you through how to manage them:

Go to SiteAdmin -> Devices -> Variables page.
On this page you can see the overview of custom variables.

Add a new custom variable:
1) In the last row you can fill the details (Name, Description, Type, Unit) of new variable you are adding.
2) Click the Save button.

Remove an existing custom variable:
1) Click the Remove button of corresponding row. Click yes.
If the output field is used in any device mapper you will see a final warning.

Hi,

I don't really understand what this "Custom Variables" feature for?
Can some one explain this more? or some real world example?

Can I use this feature to duplicate System Odometer (_Odometer) so that the data from System Odometer (with distance factor) can be recorded each time tracker send data, namely MyCustomOdometer ?

I need to check System Odometer history in Track Points panel. Meanwhile System Odometer now act only as accumulator.

Thank you.

Best Regards,

We use custom variables extensively in combination with device scripting. It allows parsing of non-vehicle telematics data (such as broom up / broom down / broom rotation speed, etc. for street sweepers)

Unfortunately it is not possible to use custom variables as an accumulator (yet). This feature may be coming soon..
