GUIDE: How to set a new default workspace for an application.
This guide is about how to customize the workspace users login to first time, and to limit which workspaces a user can see. You may for example only want a specific set of users only use very simple workspaces with a map and vehicle list only. And have no possibility of changing or creating new workspaces.
First of all login as admin to your VehicleTracker application. Change the location and size of the panels in the Workspace. Remove panels using the Workspace -> View menu. When you are happy "Save" the Workspace from the Workspace menu. Give it a name, and make sure you select "shared".
Since you selected to save the Workspace as "shared" other users can also use this workspace.
To make this workspace "default" when a new user logs into the application, follow those steps:
1. Login to SiteAdmin
2. Edit the Application.
3. Select the Workspace you want to set as default under "Default workspace"
4. Click Save.
Ok, so far so good. But! Users that login to the application can still se the "[default]" workspace, and they can still edit and create new workspaces. You might want to limit that.
You do that by disabling Features.
Login to the VehicleTracker application as administrator. Select Admin -> Features. Edit the Role you want to limit the Workspaces for, or create a new Role, by copying an existing. Deselect "_EditPrivateWorkspace" and "_EditSharedWorkspace". Users in does not have those privileges will not see the "[default]" workspace. They will not be able to edit not create workspaces either. And they will only see the the Workspaces you enabled for them under "_UseSharedWorkspace"
In this way you have complete control over which workspaces each Role can see and use.
Once you have setup an application the way you want it, use "Application Templates" to create new applications based on its settings, or to export/import it to other servers. More info:
