Plugin: Sound Alarm

Note: for an updated version of this and other articles, we recommend you to check our knowledge base here

Play a sound on incoming alarms

Please read this guide for how to use Sound Alarm in GpsGate Server v4.0
http://gpsgate.com/blogComment/sound_alarm_plugin

The plugin will play an alert sound on an incoming alarm. The sound will repeat until the(all) alarms are closed.

How to install
1. Login to SiteAdmin.
2. Go to Plugins.
3. Click on "Get More Plugins".
4. Download and install "Sound Alarm".
5. Go to the application management page for the app that you want to enable Sound Alarm for.
6. Enable/Disable Features -> Plugins -> SoundAlarm.

7. For Firefox support

Add Mime-type support for .ogg audio in IIS.
a. Open the IIS Manager. Run->inetmgr.
b. Go to IIS->MIME Types (either globally or just for the Site you installed GpsGate Server on).
c. Add the MIME Type as: extension ".ogg", MIME type "audio/ogg".

Known issues:
- This is still considered a beta/labs plugin. There's currently only a single sound to choose from etc.
- Technically the sound is based on the HTML5 <audio> tag. It is supported in most newer browsers (Not IE < 9), see http://caniuse.com/#search=audio
- Opera browser sometimes plays overlapping sound.
Watch the changelog below for updates. Please give feedback!

Hi,

This sound plugin really useful. I suggest if GGS could provide button Mute in Panel Alarm. so Operator can mute the sound without need to close the alarm or mute speaker.

Also the button Close alarm if GGS can provide setting in menu Admin\Features as role based, so not all user/operator may close an alarm/all alarms.

I have installed the plugin and enabled it in my application. How does it now work? Does it simply generate a sound on every alarm or can it be enabled in the "notifications" section of Event Rules? (I ask because I can't find anywhere that the plug-in can be used)

@Dirdnav
Did it just stop working for you? Do you notice some other error? Is VT functioning correctly anyway? Perhaps some other plugin or function isn't working that is the actual cause?
But, as mentioned above it doesn't work in older browsers. Verify if it works in for example latest Chrome. (Also make sure you haven't simply muted the speaker :) )

@guytracker
The plugin simply plays a (looping) sound as long as any alarms are open. No visual indication of the plugin is shown in the VehicleTracker UI. I.e you can't enable/disable or make some other changes to it inside VT. You have to use SiteAdmin to add or remove it from an application. (if you are a developer and know how to view the browser's script console you should see a log note that is has started though).

Hello Fredrik,

It a good plugin feature for alarm.
It would be better if we can choose different alarm for each different alarm type.

Thanks
Best regards

I agree with limyo. It would also be nice if it could be added to the notifications section of the event rules. That way we could set up sound alarms only for specific events.
