Using TomTom together with GpsGate on Ipaq hw6915

-> Install GpsGate and set up GpsGate to output on a virtual port that is free, in this case we set it to Virtual Port 2.

To share a GPS with GpsGate on HP 6915, you need to access some GpsSettings for the device, but the settings are hidden by default from us. To make them visible we have to change a value in the registry. A good Pocket PC Registry editor is PHM Registry Editor ( or ... /tre_e.htm) but there are many others. If you have another favourite that will work.

-> Install the Registry Editor
-> Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ ControlPanel \ GpsSettings

Here you will find a key called "Hide" with its value set to 1. Change it to 0 (zero).

-> Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ TomTom \ GpsSettings

Here you will find a key called COMPortNumber which is default set to 7 (the internal GPS). Change this value to a 2 (if that was the virtual com port you created earlier.)

Make a soft-reset of the device.

When the device boots you will find a new icon under Settings \ System which is called GPS. Click on it and then on the tab labeled Access. Uncheck "Manage GPS automatically (recommended)", since we want GpsGate to do this instead!

TomTom should now be able to use the virtual com port from GpsGate!
