GPS Tools In Safari Browser

Fri Mar 19, 2010 3:34 pm

Got GPSTools (latest version) working perfectly well in IE7 on Vista OS. Same wont work in Safari. I am using the events method as recommended.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Carl

Is there any way to make it work?

It also looks like GPSGate is a per computer install, which is not the way I wanted to go? Is that right, or have I got it wrong?

GPSTools is really good and it works in IE perfectly well.

FYI my application is web based.

Thanks,

Carl

What are you using GpsTools for? What do you want to do? What is the feature you are looking for? What do you expect to happen in the browser? What kind of application are you writing?

Sorry, my misunderstanding.

I have a web application with inbuilt mapping. User sets an option to say yes I am using a GPS, they choose COM port, Baud rate and off they go. It is working in IE, map moves great, they select a button "GPS Fix" and the map moves great. They will have to download gpstools, but it works great. We are using Ordnance Survey maps.

So all I need is for the same to work in Safari. Is this an ActiveX problem?

To reiterate, I am using GPSTools to read NMEA string and then when a fix is retrieved, using objFix.Position to get the grid coordinate.

OK we are going around in circles here. Is there something in that post that will help me use GPS tools, or are you trying to get me to use GPS gate. Your replies are very sparse, are they automated?

Thanks,

Carl

GpsTools only works in IE. It will not work in any other browser.

You want the position from the GPS into the browser.
