Recommend reliable tracker

Fri Apr 10, 2009 1:15 pm

Hi

I am looking for a tracking device suitable for fleet vehicle tracking. We will install on many vehicles and the units must be reliable, send constant data through gprs, must work with GPSgate with no setup problems. Unit must be reasonable price, available in UK and service support provided.

Any ideas? I have looked at globalsat tr151, would this be suitable?

goopass units are very reliable ... we have plenty of them on the systems,
we have some minor problems regarding connectivity with this devices ... and due the fact the hardware is compatible trough smartpipe only the historical data will not be handled by gpsgate.

but the value is great for the price.

the Intellitrack units are better in terms of gpsgate compatiblity as GG does fully support this hardware with all its features.
in europe and Us this hardware running by about 190 USD .. so the price is okay compared with the functionality, quality and reliability you got.

TR-151 is worlds away from quality and service friendlyness from the hardware mentioned above.

we using Goopass AVL 900 for private vehicles (because they have a microphone option where you can listen into the car), extremly strong casing and can be ordered with direct power connection (you will need to order a bunch of them to get this modification)
by default they are powered by mini-usb.

intellitrac for anything needs security, memory, reliability and something you can trust on.

about gopass .... gopass & Gpsgate are only partly compatible. (using smartpipe)
there is nothing to worry about this .. as the hardware works perfectly like this.
but the limitation is by the limitation of the smartpipe connector of gpsgate.

so a avl 901 would only cost more .. but will not have more benefit.
a avl 900 is smaller .. and will do the same job. (as the more features cant be used anyway)

the only reason to get a 901 is the battery . but the pricing modells are too extreme .. so if a battery required .. i recoment a intellitrac X1-Plus unit .. as the price will be the same then but the compatiblity and functionality is much higher.

the selection of the right hardware is also extremly depends on the customers needs .. and less depends on the features offered.

as examlpe .. if the unit needs to be able to submit voice as well .. gopass units are much better than intellitrac
because of the hardware the companys are using ...
gopass using simcom gsm modules .. where intellitrac using real siemens modules.
basically the same .. but the original siemens modules are based on data communication and the voice quality isnt so good.

simcom is also used in mobile phones ... so the focus is more on the voice quality ..
(this is just a example) .. there are many factors you should consider ...

a siemens tzn33 as example can register in the network and establish a data connection in under 20 secounds .. where most simcom modules first making sure the features are locked (like a mobile phone) .. so a final connection to the server can take up to 2 minutes in some situations.

its not only the price and the features ....
most of the customers dont even know the diffrence between gps and gprs ..
so its the job of the sales and RND to find and advice for the right product.
