If you have a device that connects and sends its position by GPRS then disconnects and repeats at user defined intervals it will cost 1p per position/connection

peter c is correct. If your tracker uses TCP connection, it connects then disconnects every time it sends an update which is rounded up to 1p, very expensive!!!. You can avoid this and use a UDP type tracker such as the AVL900 which keeps the connection open constantly. This will cost about 50p per month for a vehicle travelling a couple of hours a day.

You can buy the AVL900 tracker at trackit247.co.uk

Hope this helps.

dean40 please explain why using UDP would keep the connection open. I know some trackers like Rover9 has an option to never disconnect the GPRS connection. I really would like to have an open option on our TR-151 but that device seems to disconnect after some time (anybody knows after how many seconds?).

The way I understood it was that a tcp connection is open all the time whereas a UDP connection is not.
Open all the time off course I think means a bit of a drain on your battery!!

I am sorry for any confusion. Some TCP connections are always open.
