Port or VPort ( which one to use)

Mon Dec 13, 2010 2:11 pm

Planning to use Franson SerialTools for controlling items through RS232 ports. However, we have to be able to control them using a standard RS232 port and a virtual RS232 port generated by an FTDI driver installed into windows XP. Which version of serialTools do I need and does anybody know about the future of serialTools as a product. I would hate to use serialTools only to find I have to rewrite everything in a couple of years time due to new operating systems etc.

Thanks in advance for any help

From the home page for serial tools:

"SerialTools is no longer maintained and it is not recommended for new projects"

Sad but has been a great product for our apps, but good support from the company has been scarce (for us, at least), and apparently will get worse in the future if the above quote is any indication.
