feature request: Idle devices/track-splitting

Tue Apr 15, 2008 8:56 am

we have some "always on" Devices.

the result is that the track splitting values are never come into effect because the devices do always update AND never move over the maximum position

our default settings are 90 minutes Waiting and 3000 meter distance.

if a device is reporting every minute .. but not move for days
the track is never split up.

as example . we have a taxidriver on the system for testing.
this car have just one track .. with about 4000 Kilometers.
as the device is sending 24/7 every minute.
where the driver is sleeping some time aor the car is parking somewhere .. with many 0meter/0km/h updates ..

there should be a filter in the time-trigger in track-recorder ... do not count the 0/0 updates ...

i think this would solve this issue out.

cheers .. Mario

somethings like

if speed && distance == 0
ignore for track-recorder

maybe a general setting for this would be nice

Hello,

I'm having a similar issue. My vehicle tracker is not splitting the GPS points into tracks. I believe I have everything set correctly, but I'd appreciate it if someone could look over my settings and perhaps let me know what's wrong.

My GPS modem is set to update every on the following scheme:

1. Every 10 seconds when moving OR
2. Every 200 meters when moving (whichever occurs sooner BUT no more than every 7 seconds)
3. Every 15 minutes when vehicle is at rest

I have vehicle tracker set to the following settings:

1. New track: 120 min / 25,000 m
2. Position update stored: 60 sec / 500 m

Any help would be great - I now have one track that started on 06/01/08 at 0917 and is still recording data points on 06/02/08 at 0735 (nearly a full day).

P.S. Johan: Thank you for the help with the Pinpoint modem - the TAIP solution works perfectly!

exact that is the problem with my devices ...
according to your setting and the GG Version ... it would never start a new track .. even if the unit not move for days

i have units always on since 3 months .. have 4 tracks (one with 7000Km)

Hmm...so why would it not start a new track? As I understand it, Vehicle Tracker is set (with those settings mentioned above) to start a new track every 120 minutes OR 25,000 meters (whichever occurs first). What am I missing?

Any help would be great.

Thanks!

if your device sending all 15 minutes (as you mentioned) ... the time and distance trigger never comes into effect.
like tou have 15 minutes later another update with 0 meter distance mean 15 minutes (smaller as 120) and 0 meter distance (smaller as 25.000 meters) so the current track stays active.

I have this same problem. So is the splitting occuring based on reporting times, or based on times in the NMEA updates?

I don't drive my vehicle at night or most of the day. I have been running updates for 3-4 days now and it's all one track. If I stop the gpsgate client for an hour then it breaks it up - so it sounds like its based on breaks in the NMEA stream times ?

Yes, a break in the steam for 2 hours will start a new track in GpsGate Server 1.3

Okay, understood. Using GpsGate client for Windows, and a standard NMEA device stream, whats the best way to make tracks work ? This NMEA is always on and never stops, its in a car with massive amounts of batteries ; )

There is actually not very much you can do in GpsGate Sever 1.3 about this. We will have a solution in the coming 2.0 (which you can get a beta of now). However the enhanced track handing is not included in the first beta.

understood now that i know its not supported. for some reason i thought it was built in based on the fact the device settings allow you set these parameters, distance, heading, etc.

Yes, those are the criteria for saving a new position (not starting a new track).
