Custom POI

Tue Feb 19, 2008 1:40 pm

is there a posibility to get Custom POI running as a Maps-layer ?

i can implement the DB structure and scripts myself ..
mean i would just need a entry point for this.

for a serverbased version my suggestion would be to have the posibility to have application-based a poi DB to display.

dispatcher's would love it to have some keypoints as icons on the maps.

Yes, there is definitly a need for POI functionality. There is no support for POIs in GpsGate Server 1.3, but we will include this in coming versions of GpsGate Server.

Hi,
As Johan says, we aim to add custom POI support "soon".
In the meantime, If you're running using Google Maps and can make your POIs available in KML format,
you could perhaps try the workaround discussed here: http://franson.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6773

yeah i was afrait also about the "soon" .. anyway the mentioned way doing this is already in the code ..
(commented) so it was a 20,5 secounds task ;-)

works great ..

just one thing:
is it somehow possible to obtain session data or any hint about the user logged in within the javascript
for a external script (i plan to make custom POI based on the loginname)

Nice to hear you got it working.
(Just don't get too reliant on hacks, since they're (by definition) not supported officially ;) )

Also, regarding POIs, perhaps you have ideas about how you'd like to see them integrated in the final application? necessary features, GUI style, etc?

RE: Custom POI

the workarround about the custom POI is a competition system (we want switch complete to GPSGate)
however .. there are bunch of police-cars in the system we used before (custom) its a pilot project on a small district.

where the dispatcher can define own POI (poi stored based on the application/department) POI set by department.

its easy done with the google maps api ... (just like buddy tracker does the manual position updates)
put a pint on the position select icon .. some text .. (ajax start a bg file to poke it into the DB) done.

on the next reload, the KML have this poi included and its show on the map.

the use is .. thats the dispatcher can give more easy directions based on the POI ..

its then very easy to determinate the person to call
(you do this desition with help of your eyes anyway)

so if this poi thing take you guys a while i would just do a extra DB .. and create the KML on the fly on the moment Vehicletracker.aspx is loaded
i think this is also a good long term solution.

all i need is some way to get the UID, name or somethig else unique about the logged in user or the application-id is running.
rest is a few lines code ;-)

Ok, we'll try to keep this in mind. Keep suggestions coming!

For the app id see Franson_Session.ApplicationId. The user-id is currently not available in VehicleTracker. I guess we could expose it in Franson_Session too.. we'll see.

Altf4:
Thought you'd like to now that starting from GpsGate Server 1.3.2 (build 471) you have now access to user-id and username as: Franson_Session.UserId and Franson_Session.UserName respectively.
Hope it helps your project!

is it possible to simply 'print' user_id and/or appid by now?

The problem is that the importet poi from another virtual host so i can not read the sessiondata there.

A simple http-get would solve it for now as the kml output is anyway read-only.

Something is avaiable in vehicletracker.aspx.

Basicly anythin stored in the db to let me get the appid.
