Connecting the GpsGate Client to your GpsGate Server

When you have a working install of GpsGate Server, either on a dedicated server or on a shared host, the next step is to connect the GpsGate Client of your choice to the server. This is a quick guide on how to get your devices with the GpsGate Client to work against your installation of GpsGate Server.

GpsGate Client on Laptop/PC with Windows

Supported in dedicated server installation - Yes

Supported in shared hosting installation - Yes

This client is usually installed on a laptop connected with Bluetooth to an external GPS.

For instructions on how to download and install the GpsGate Client for PC/Laptop, see this link: GpsGate Client for Windows

But in the last step titled “Add Gpsgate.com as Output”, instead of connecting to the server used in http://www.gpsgate.com you want to connect the client to your own server.

1.Right-click the GpsGate icon in the Windows toolbar and select Settings. Choose "GpsGate.com (Send)" as Output to GpsGate and click on Add.

2.Enter your username and password for a user you have created on GpsGate Server in either BuddyTracker or VehicleTracker.

Now instead of clicking Test, click on the small button with 3 dots to the left of “online.gpsgate.com”. This will open up a window where you select your server. In the Server-field replace “online.gpsgate.com”with the Domain name or IP of your server and click OK, this closes down the window.

3.Click "OK", to start sending data. The client will automatically detect what kind of protocol it should send.

When selecting Output you do the exact same procedure as for Laptop and PC, with the difference that the button for setting another server then online.gpsgate.com resides above the user-name instead of to the side.
