Yes, you will need a dedicated server, or a virtual private server (VPS).

Virtual Private Server VPS
A VPS is a server which is shared among several users, but each user experience the server as his own. More info on Google for Virtual Private Server
http://www.google.com/search?q=virtual+private+server

VPS is the most inexpensive hosting alternative. Starting at about USD 25 per month and up.

Dedicated server
A dedicated server is your own server. This is a more expensive alternative starting at about USD 79 per month

More info on Google for Dedicated Server

Currently we don't have an install service. If you try to install yourself and run into problems, please post the problems to the forum, and we'll help you out.

I understand that you will soon be releasing a shared hosted server version. Do you have a firm release date?

It is always hard with firm release dates. But we have resolved most difficulties, so I would say that you can expect the update in 2 weeks time.

Share hosting is the feature we are working on now, so the next release will contain the feature.

GpsGate Client for Windows and Pocket PC will be able to send data to the "Shared version". CT-24 from Sanav will also be supported. But in the first release no other clients will be supported. Not GpsGate Mobile 1.0 for example.

Thanks - thats good news.

I have my own bespoke tracking device based around the Telit GE863 GPS which I am assuming can easily be integrated into your platform.

At this stage can you tell me what prerequisites are required from my shared host (.ASP, .PHP, MySQL etc) I want to ensure that the hosts where I have my website can support all that is required.

You will need Windows 2k/2003, ASP.NET 2.0, MySQL 4.1/5.0

One ISP that support this setup is http://jodohost.com, you get an account for something like USD 7 per month, but I guess most ISP running Windows will support this setup. You will be able to setup multiple BuddyTracker and VehicleTracker applications on one shared web account.

Jodohost is one of the ISP we run tests agains, so it can be a good choice.

GpsGate Client already have the http-protocol implemented. Here you have the http protocol specifications:
http://franson.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5637

If you want to login using the device's IMEI you add a imei=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx in the URL, where xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx is the IMEI

The base URL will be www.yoursite.com/GpsGate.aspx
