DB-Connect to MS SQL / Secure environment

Fri May 18, 2007 12:31 pm

Two Questions concerning an installation on out own server environment:

We got a server farm behind a firewall with one firewall zone for application server and one for database server. The application server run under IIS6, Database Server are MS-SQL 2000.

1) Installation of GPS-Gate Server on IIS6 works fine until the database connect. We modified the web.config file setting the connection string to "Provider=SQLOLEDB;Server=out_server;Database=our_db;UID=user;PWD=pass;" and the Database Type to "MsSQL".

Running the "test" function for the web.config the result is "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." What does that mean?
In other applications, the connect with this connection string works fine. Trying a connect with a DSN-ODBC-Source gets the same error.

Is it necessary to create any special table in the given Database?

2) We installed the Franson NMEA Service successfully. Our Firewall will only route Port 80 and 443 to that application server. Is it possible to receive the GPS messages from the clients on these Ports? An own IP adress for GPS Gate is available.

Thanks for any help.

1. MSSQL is not supported in GpsGate Server 1.0, only MySQL is supported.

2. You can change the port by editing GpsGate.Service.exe.config in the GpsGate.Service folder and then restarting the "Franson NMEA Service".

For TCP/IP change
<add key ="NmeaPort" value="30175"/>
to
<add key ="NmeaPort" value="443"/>

For UDP change:
<add key ="UdpNmeaPort" value="30175"/>
to
<add key ="UdpNmeaPort" value="433"/>

Are there any plans for including support for MS SQL in the near future?
