Make sure that the database is installed correctly.
Something is wrong with your database tables, I suggest you drop all tables (drop database 'db_name'; in mysql promt) and start over from a fresh empty database.

If you run ‘describe groups;’ in the mysql promt the output should look like this:

+-------------------+-------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+
| Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra |
+-------------------+-------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+
| group_id | int(11) | | PRI | NULL | auto_increment |
| group_name | varchar(45) | | | | |
| group_description | varchar(45) | YES | | NULL | |
| bo_type | varchar(64) | YES | | NULL | |
+-------------------+-------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+

Hi, still have problem to install "Cannot set column 'group_description'. The value violates the MaxLength limit of this column". The mysql ouput tells me that the db is ok:
mysql> describe groups;
+-------------------+-------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+
| Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra |
+-------------------+-------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+
| group_id | int(11) | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment |
| group_name | varchar(45) | NO | | | |
| group_description | varchar(45) | YES | | NULL | |
| bo_type | varchar(64) | YES | | NULL | |
+-------------------+-------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+

must be something else wrong?

Are you trying to install BuddyTracker or BuildYourOwnSite? After you upgraded to build 16, did you try to drop the tables using "drop table" command (or MySQL Administrator) on all tables? Did you install all the available packages on the install page (until the skip button is renamed to Next)? Which version of MySQL server and MySQL ODBC Connector are you using? Recommended versions are MySQL Server 4.1 and ODBC Connector 3.51.
