Version 1.0.112
A new release of the GpsGate Tracker Android app has been released to the Google Play Store and will be available to download across different regions later on in the day.
An update to the unbranded version of the app containing the same features will be released at a later date.

Features
Battery Saving: The tracker now enters a "parked" state when it does not move for a while, completely shutting down the GPS hardware. This should reduce battery consumption dramatically for the average userQuick Status Checking: The notification icon now shows the state of tracking and the server connection with small indicators underneath the GpsGate iconGarmin Integration: GpsGate Tracker now supports installations on Garmin Android devices, removing the need for a black box and FMI cable when connecting to GpsGate Server.
Check http://gpsgate.com/garmin/garmin_android_platform for more informationCell ID Support: The GpsGate Server CellID plugin is now supported when using the Android and Android WiFi device type.
CellID information is currently only sent to the server as a fallback for when GPS and WiFi location information is not available. A future update will send this information more frequently.
Note: Make sure that you are updated to the latest beta version of Patch.v4 and that you have correctly mapped the MCC, MNC, LAC, and CellID signals in the Device Mapper for Android/Android Wifi Only.
Check http://gpsgate.com/blogComment/cell_id_ ... _locations for more information
Fixes
Connection Stability: Server connection more reliable when using mobile data connectivityIssue preventing app from restarting after device reboot resolvedOccasional crash when closing down app resolvedFlight mode no longer shuts down the GPS tracking

Would it possible to add a mapping for charging status? That is whether the android device is charging or discharging battery. I am currently testing a 3g android phone with the intention of possibly replacing 2g trackers in our fleet but am trying to think of a way to check vehicle ignition status, the device being charged or not would indicate if the ignition is on in the vehicle if charger is powered by ignition.

Yes. This can be added in a future release. You can probably infer the status now by watching whether the battery level is rising or falling but a boolean signal would be a good addition.

@piro

You should not be required to make any purchases to download free software from Google Play. You do need to make sure that your Google Account is fully set up to use Google Play but as far as I am aware, you do not need to spend any money.

I have noticed that when you sign up, it does imply that you need to set up billing and add funds to your account. If you look around on that screen, there should be a "skip" button to press to bypass this step.

@rajiv

We only distribute our main branded and unbranded builds of the GpsGate Tracker app through the Google Play Store.
We would encourage our partners to use these versions of the app for their end users as they are then notified about updates and can always stay informed about the latest versions. In an ecosystem with thousands and thousands of devices (Android), frequent updates are crucial to maintain stability and ensure that your users aren't using copies of the app that are out of date.

If you distribute the app from an apk every user will need to manually check for app updates constantly and manually install them on every device.

Andrew

Hello,

I would like to be able to configure the app like a normal tracker, i.e. location updates every 10secs as long as you are more than 30m from the last location and/or if the bearing changes by 30 degrees or so. With the app my (limited) experience is that the locations are as good as a normal tracker but that the points are not well chosen for route mapping.

I think it should be possible as there is a Lithuanian competitor who does it!

Thanks
Andy

@AndrewC, I want to share about this, android device tracking mainly used by Salesman. They daily activity to offer retail goods from store to store to be supplied from us (the retail goods distribution company).

They will tag/note the store that interested but need further negotiation and tag/note the store that agree to be supplied retail goods from us. This Salesman not only need to note the store name and address but they also need to take picture of the store also.

Dear GpsGate,
The app does not store position without cellular signal, please add storage function for next releases.

Thanks
