HTTPS/SSL maps

Tue Feb 14, 2012 3:21 pm

Hi,
I would like to secure connection to gpsgate.
But there is a problem with maps.
Is it possible to secure OpenLayers (OpenStreetMaps)?

At the moment no. You're in luck though since we're actually working on an improved OpenLayers plugin right now that will handle this (will use a server-local OpenLayers repo).
Check back in a week or so!

Update/clarification:
I might have misunderstood. I can only promise that the plugin will load the OL script via https. The actual map tiles will be loaded from the default OSM servers.
So, to solve this you need to find/setup a https enabled host for OSM map tiles. Not sure if a public one exists but you are allowed to copy OSM data and could do it yourself. This would require an adapted/new OL map plugin though. We'll try to keep this in mind, but can't promise we'll support it by default, prepare to create your own plugin in that case...

I found this trick also that might be inspirational:

As said, you'll have to wait for the updated OL plugin for that. In the meantime, see if you can figure out howto handle the actual map tiles over https if you need that.

I have already done that. (thanks for the link;) )
Is it possible to change url of OpenLayer.js manually in the code?

The links are stored in the database after plugin installation. Manually changing/hacking them directly in the DB is not supported.

I would recommend you instead create your own plugin repository and load your modified map plugin from it, see this guide:
http://forum.gpsgate.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=12716

(If you build a useful plugin you can publish/advertise it here!).
