GUIDE: Alarm when car stops for 20 minutes.

Mon Sep 19, 2011 7:32 pm

Note: for an updated version of this and other articles, we recommend you to check our knowledge base here

GUIDE: Alarm when car stops for 20 minutes.

This is a short guide on how to create an Event Rules which triggers when a vehicle is standing still for 20 minutes.

1. Login to your VehicleTracker application.
2. Select Admin -> Event Rules from the menu.
3. Click on "Add new Event Rule"

You now enter the Event Rule Wizard which is completed in 5 steps.

Step 1. Enter a suitable name like "Stop 20 minutes". Click Next.

Step 2. Select the tags you want this rule to be active for. To make it active for all vehicles, do not select any tag. Click Next.

Step 3. Click Next.

Step 4.

Select "Analog Expression" in drop down.
Select "Speed" "Equal" "0"
Select "Delayed event". Enter 20 minutes.

Click Next.

Step 5.

If you want a blinking icon on the map as an Alarm, select "Alarm panel and reports" in the drop down.

Click Next.

Click Save.

Now you will get a blinking icon on the map when a vehicle is idle for more than 20 minutes.

Is it considering GPS location drift and works with filtered data or unliftered?

If it works with raw data without filtering it will not work as speed will inlikely stay for 20 mintues at 0 km/h.

Piotr

Real time Event Rules will not use filtered data.
Event Reports will use filtered data.

If the GPS is drifting you can for example set Speed < 5 km/h as condition.

If the GPS is very noisy, this rule will not work.

i use this setup for a long time... with a few geofences where vehicles can stay for any time they want, only in weekdays and only in a certain time interval... working flawlessly

If you use rule with speed < 5 km/h you will get false stop points in traffic. Basicly speaking event rulez based on speed and geo data needs some tweaking before they are usable as long as event rulez uses raw data.

If you don't want false outside geofence alarms (like parking areas) you need to undestand how the raw GPS data looks like. Turn off filtering, display tracks and then think about you're event rulez again :)

Piotr

I have tried to use this rule and it did not work for me. I use analog expression like you have described and waited for 10 minutes it just didn't work. I put it under less than 1 mile using TR-151 because at standstill it shows .80 miles.

Please advice.

Thanks.

mcollaboration: It sounds from this and other posts that you have problems in general to understand how to setup an Event Rule, and different kinds of notifications like SMS and email.

You need to start learning to make simple rules, and start to use the tools available for trouble shooting.

The "Terminal". You can see how data comes in and how it is processed. You can for example see if a SOS signal actually comes in or not, and you can see if there are errors, and which event rules starts and ends. If you don't start using the Terminal, and continue to resort to simply say "it does not work" without any further information, I am afraid things will never work for you. Here is information about the Terminal:
http://forum.gpsgate.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10740

You should also take a look at the Queue Viewer under SiteAdmin -> System Tools

And a very useful tool when learning and experimenting with Event Rules is "SimOne". It is an emulated "GpsGate TrackerOne" tracker which runs as a Windows program. IN this way you can send signals to the server and see how it works. Download SimOne here:
http://gpsgate.com/go/gpsgateserver/download.asp

If, after making serious attempts to understand, after reading and searching in this forum, you still have questions. Post the questions and include as much information as possible about what you do and your results. Post each new type of question to a new topic.

Johan

if the tracker sends keepalive without position/speed i guess u have to use an offline event instead?

Try to use the option "Automatically trigger event after the delay specified above" which you find in Step 4. when you have enabled "Delayed Event" under Advanced options.

In this way the event will trigger when no proper reports comes in from the device, as in your case when only keep alive messages are received.

Make sure all plugins are green under SiteAdmin -> Plugins, since this is a new feature.

but nothing happens

Is there a way to setup live event alerting with an audible alert?
