Legacy Google v2 geocoder (better quota?)

Wed May 11, 2011 12:56 am

GpsGate Server v2.3.1 used Google older v2 geocoding API. GpsGate Server v3.0 uses the newer Google v3 API for geocoding.

Google says it will at some point disable the older v2 API. But it seems to work for now, and also allow a higher daily quota than the v3, which allows 2500 requests per day for a free key.

Here is a Plugin which enables usage of Google v2 geocoding API in GpsGate Server v3.0

Google announces that v2 of the geocoding API will be deprecated on 8th September 2013.

Please migrate to v3 (the GpsGate Server default) if you haven't already!

Hi Fredik,

Is it possible to configure gpsgate to use google maps on the client side? This does not have the 2500 limit as on server side and pretty much any client can use it as they want to (subject the 25,000 limit per day which is hard to reach for most people) - this way there is no additional costs for google maps

Server side vs. client side tradeoffs are discussed at

Best regards,
VJ

when does the number of requests per day counted? Is it only for reports purposes? of even if a client logs into the server and looks for for information on vehicle location in address format in vehicle information tab?

Please note that this plugin is disabled, and Google Maps API v2 is no longer available by Google.

I will lock this thread now. Please re-post your question in a new topic.

All geocode requests count, both for reports and from the web browser interface.
(This is essentially the same for all geocode enabled map service plugins)

Please note that we do not recommend use of this Google v2 plugin anymore, it is deprecated.
