Managing Query on Google Reverse-Geocoding?

Wed Apr 06, 2011 8:59 pm

Hi Support,

I have search through the forum and notice that not many people have this problem of Free Google API exceeding quota. This is strange considering that there are many GGS users with a bigger fleet leading to more reverse-geocoding query to Google API. I believe that not many people is willing to pay US$11,000 for the premier API.

The only person who mentioned about free Google API over-quota is comrade Limyo.

The question is how can i manage my application to prevent more than 2500 query per day to Google? Can i manage through the "track recorder" or should i restrict my customers from printing more reports.

Last question is where to see and how to manage this?

Thank you for your speedy reply.

GpsGate Server will cache geocode requests, so over time typically 80% of all requests are fetched from the cache.

You can also use other sources for geocoding, like importing POIs from KML or CSV files. CloudMade works reasonable in Europe. And there are ways for integration.

We also have more things coming up like this (probably):

Any user with feedback about geocoding please post a reply here!

Here is yet another way to enable geocoding for GpsGate Server. (Which requires coding skills)

This is if you have a database or geocoding services, and you have the skills to take a HTTP request from GpsGate Server to for example a PHP page you have developed, which in turns makes the geocoding request and returns the result to GpsGate Server as XML.

Hello catpl

Currently I still have problem with gocoding. I use geocoder of google for few customer that have very little number of vehicle to prevent exceeding geocoding quota and use CloudMade geocoding for most customer that have large number of vehicle. But the problem is CloudMade not support geocoding address request in my country.

So if GPSGate company make shapefile geocoding for GPSGateServer is the best way because no more limit number of geocoding.
As Johan comment you may leave feedback if you interest shapefile geocoding:

Shapefile + Geoserver is own webmap server that we can add any thing we want.

Thanks

CloudMade is deprecated. Use e.g. Native Map instead: https://support.gpsgate.com/hc/en-us/articles/360005938334-Native-Map
