RE: Garmin PND (FMI)

Hi captl. We surely had an issue with Garmin. I can tell you that after Garmin solved the issue it started warking "almost" flawlessly.

Different story for GGS, we had no chance to use the chat service, thus I can't say.

@mti,

So is the Garmin FMI working okay??? i have dropped this FMI project indefinitely...

Since it is still in beta, I will wait for GGS to confirm it is 100% ready.

What Garmin firmware version you are using?

catpl: We have done a lot of work to make this stable. Hopefully we can make a final release of the new Core this week, and as part of that many other plugins will also be released in new and improved versions.

What for that release, test again. If you still have problems we need to take a new look at it.

Hi,

I managed to set Dispatch mode on my Nuvi 1440 but:

- Garmin Nuvi PND terminal, logs only data from the Server

- Sending a sms message from a cell phone with AT$SNDGA=1,"Message" shows the typed text on the Garmin PND screen

- Sending a message from Garmin Nuvi or directly from A1
(with AT$SNDTXT="Message") the A1 terminal logs the action, but the chat client don't show the message itself, and on the Garmin device the message remain stuck on the outgoing queue.

- Sending a message from GGS chat client doesn't work either, with the "Still sending the message..." status.

Testing was done using all stable GGS modules and then with updated modules from beta.gpsgate.com with both Udp and Tcp on A1 device.

Hope someone may suggest what to try next.

Bye

@gltrack

Make sure (check with SysTech) that you have a correct Garmin supported firmware on your A1. We have implemented the $SNDGA command, not $SNDTXT.
If you can send a $SNDGA command from the Garmin (through the A1), does it show up in the A1 terminal in GGS?

When you send a message from GGS, does the command show up in the Command queue? Look for _SendChatText. What is the status?

@Mattias

Sending a Message from Garmin, GGS A1 terminal logs this entry multiple times, till I delete the message from the outgoing queue:

[2012-01-24 12:15:36] (91.80.22.49:2020/SysTech/tcp) Client: $SNDGA:[0x10][0xA1][0x10][0x10]$[0x00][0xD4]F[0x81])[0x1B][0x00][0x00][0x00]test[0x00][0x87][0x10][0x03][0x0D][0x0A]

Sending a message from GGS chat client, GGS Garmin terminal logs this:

[2012-01-24 12:20:24] (91.80.22.49:2020/Garmin/direct) Server: [0x10][0xA1]!*[0x00][0xF8]G[0x81])[0x01][0x01][0x00][0x00][0x01][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00]

How many steps did it complete (Current/Max Steps)? Step description?

The incoming chat seems correct. It is the old Garmin protocol but it should be handled by our driver.
Since the device keeps sending it I guess there is no response from the server? Can you check the error logs at around the same time (2012-01-24 12:15:36)?

Hi,

sorry for the dealy:

Sending a message from GGS chat client from Nuvi terminal:

Current step: 2

Max steps: 3

Description: SendOpenTextMessage. Waiting for reply...

From C:\GpsGateServer\ErrorLog\nmea.log

it seems to log only the opearation that I have aborted manually:

Hmm, well it seems to successfully send the command then, it just does not get any response from the device.

If you try to send a message again, do you also see data in the A1 device's terminal in GGS?

And again, have you checked with SysTech that you have a correct Garmin supported firmware on your A1? Since you could use "AT$SNDGA=1,"Message"", which is an old protocol, maybe you have an old firmware.

If I try to send a message from the chat cli, nothing appears on the A1 terminal, other than the normal position report.

The firmware of A1 with Garmin support is Ver2.01 Rev04M while the device was shipped with version 2.18 and some users report version 2.20 with Garmin support.

I will ask Systech for an update: I don't know how much this will take, because they are officially closed till 29 jan.

Thank You

OK, this might be the problem then.

So when you see:

[2012-01-24 12:20:24] (91.80.22.49:2020/Garmin/direct) Server: [0x10][0xA1]!*[0x00][0xF8]G[0x81])[0x01][0x01][0x00][0x00][0x01][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00][0x00]tttttt[0x00]p[0x10][0x03]

in the Garmin Terminal, the same message is not shown in the A1 Terminal (packaged in a SNDGA command)?

Look for the error "Cannot send data. No master connection tunnel available." in your error logs.
Also, you have created the two devices on the same user right?

When you send chat messages from the Garmin -> GGS. Do you see the same incoming chat command in both the A1 Terminal and the Garmin Terminal, or only in the A1 terminal?

Mattias
