Thu Dec 18, 2008 3:49 pm

Hi,

I have installed Franson GPS gate software, but i cant get in options window to set up the ports.

Software starts up as service with no error messages, and i can see the gpsgatexp.exe runnin from taks manager. however idont have tray icon to give me access to options window. I have Windows XP.

i tried to reinstall software, but no help. this software is installed with dasa programs so its OEM version of somekind, i have also tried the trial version found from your website with same results. i can't even access to settings wizard

You have to run GpsGate in normal mode to change settings. Stop service then run in normal mode. Change settings by right clicking GpsGate icon in tray & choosing Settings. When finished exit prog & re-start as service.

Also remember to use "Shared Settings". More information on how to run GpsGate as a service here:

No help from these, i had already tried to use software normally, without service. at some point i tried to unistall this sodtware and deleted all registry entries regarding this program, and i managed to get this wizard working one time i also saw the icon and was able to go on options screen. but after reboot icons were missing again, and not working with or without service installed or active.

You find the GpsGate icon in the tray menu, as described here:
http://franson.com/gpsgate/guide.asp?section=GettingStarted_200&platform=winxp

Windows sometimes hides tray icons, in which case you need to expand it by clicking the double arrow to the left of the tray menu.

You can see if GpsGate is running as an application by checking if "GpsGateXP.exe" runs as a process in the task manager.
You can check if GpsGate is running as a service by checking if "GpsGateServer.exe" runs as a process.

The Wizard only shows the first time you run GpsGate, after that you access GpsGate from the tray icon when running as an application.

In general it is a good thing to read the user's guide if you have problems, you find it here:

It is not like i dont know how to hide and unhide icons from system tray, it's just that GPSGate software icon is not showing in tray at all.

If you would kindly read the first post of this topic you could find out that i have already tried that too. and have checked that GPSgateXP.exe is running, still no icon in system tray.

Ok, thats good to know but it doesnt help me, even if i can make setting one time after installation in wizard it is not possible to change any settings after installation.

GpsGate can be run without showing the tray icon. Maybe you have an OEM version of GpsGate where the distributor has hidden the tray icon (something you can contact the distributor to verify.)

This topic explains how to hide the tray icon, and by removing that registry entry you will show it again:
http://franson.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6992

You can also control GpsGate from a command shell:
http://franson.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3788

To show the settings dialog use
C:\Program Files\Franson\GpsGate 2.0\GpsGateXP.exe -settings
