virtual ports not created when running as service

Wed Sep 24, 2008 8:41 pm

I have dual boot XP+SP3/Vista+SP1 32 bit laptop.

I run GpsGate 2.6.0.340 as a service with three virtual ports as output. This works fine under XP both normal & service mode, but with Vista it only works in normal mode. GpsGate Service under Vista is reported as running ok but the various applications it feeds all report that the (virtual) input port is not available.

I believe this may have happened in the recent update with Vista 64 bit support. Please advise Johan.

No changes was made in that area for the 64-bit release.

My best guess is that you have made an error in the configuration. You need to use "Shared Settings" to run GpsGate as a service. More info here:

Many thanks Johan. Having set up XP with GpsGate service several years ago, I had forgotten about shared settings issue on the recent Vista installation.
