gpsgate + ms vista + virtual com ports - NOT

Sat May 17, 2008 11:33 pm

Hi,
I do not know if I am alone in this but I was FORCED to run Vista and a large number of my programs have failed to work properly GPSGATE being one of them.

GPSGate 2.6 build 321
Vista Bluetooth Drivers
Iblue 757 Bluetooth GPS
HTC touch Phone
Memory Map Navigator 5.2.5 Build 823
Nobeltech VNS Max Pro Version 10
Google Earth

On the input side, GPSgate works ok, it connects to the GPS and repeats the data to the output devices.

On the Output side
Online.Gpsgate.Com -- Works AOK
Bluetooth Server -- Can connect AOK from HTC Telephone
Google Earth -- Works AOK
GPSGATE.COM -- Works AOK
Virtual COMx (x=1 through 20) -- Error 1275 Failed to create Virtual Serial Port.

None of my programs can connect to any of the virtual ports I have tried.

Any IDEAS other than shoving this laptop up Bill Gates you know what and tell him to make XP available on new Laptops.

Dennis

Are you running 64-bit Vista? The Virtual Ports will not work on 64-bit Windows in the current version of GpsGate.

Yes it appears to be the Operating system of choice for the HP DV9000 series of laptops is Vista Home Pro 64 bit. Do you have any workarounds and or suggestions or should I stick with my plan A.

I think the main reason you have problems with many applications is that you use 64-bit. If you don't have a specific reason to use 64-bit use 32.

I had the same error, then just now I went to the Franson GpsGate 2.6 (v2.6.0.340 demo) icon in my start menu, and did Right Click -> Run as Administrator and it appears to have worked! You just need administrator permission to create "virtual COM ports" as I would expect. I'm running Vista Home (32bit I believe) on a Dell laptop from summer 2007 (XPS M1210).

== Debugging ==
On the Output tab of the Settings window, I added a "Virtual COM port/Garmin Emulation" for my Vista Cx and it said it worked, and now "1 client connected" from GooPs set to COM4. However, my location is not being feed to Google Earth... it still says my lat/long is 0/0.

How else do I debug this and see what Lat/Long coordinates my GPS is sending? A "Debug" tab would be nice to have a scrolling log of the traffic being communicated to the Virtual COM port. How about Outpt to a text/log file?

I have GooPs set to Port: COM4, Rate: 4800, Flow Ctl: Xon/Xoff
Any suggestions?

I have latest GpsGate 2.6.0.340 running fine as service on Vista 32 bit with several virtual ports. I am about to buy new laptop with Vista 64 pre-installed. I thought that from 240 onwards it was compatible with this OS accepting that maybe you have to copy C:\Program Files (x86)\Franson\GpsGate 2.0\x64\bizVSerialNT.sys to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers in order to create virtual ports. Please confirm the situation Johan.

Hello. I have 32 bit Vista on a laptop and it won't create a virtual port. I've tried re-installing the program, but that hasn't worked. Any ideas?

Thank you.

Thanks Johan. I've installed Franson GPS Gate on many diffrent laptops and this is the first time I've gotten stuck. Every other time I've had this issue, a simple re-install has worked. All of the other computers were Windows XP. I assume this is a problem
with Vista.

Oh well. The individual using this laptop just won't have GPS capability.

Thank you.

\SystemRoot\SysWow64\drivers\bizVSerialNT.sys has been blocked from loading due to incompatibility with this system. Please contact your software vendor for a compatible version of the driver.

the guide http://franson.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8252 obviously does not work. Are there any plans to support x64 Vista/Win 7? All my machines are x64, so cant run in a 32 bit OS.
