GPSGate and 64 bit Vista

Fri Jun 15, 2007 7:11 pm

I was instructed to post to check for possible workarounds...
I am using an iTrek Z1 on Streets and Trips 2007. It connects FINE with bluetooth but does not stay connected. It will stay connected to GPS info. The problem is the dreaded error 1275 failed driver and failure to create serial port. Here are the usual cop-outs:
"Very few users run 64-bit Windows today, so I guess the answer is when there is a demand"
"There is however users that have GpsGate working on 64-bit Vista, I don't know exactly what the secret is, we have not run any tests here"
64 bit XP was completed 2 years ago, and 64 bit Vista was in development for 5 years. You almost cannot buy a processor today that isn't 64 bit compatible. My 2 newest computers run 64 bit, and I will NOT run 32 bit on any future purchases. But "very few people run 64 bit" so I guess we should wait? Thank you.

Sorry to spoil your rant mate, but GpsGate works OK on my XP x64 PC using a Bluetooth feed from an external PDA based GPS, piped through virtual COM: ports to Memory-Map and AutoRoute running on the PC. What more can I say?

What BT stack are you running? Mine is WIDCOM (Belkin) running the native x64 drivers from Broadcom.

Thanks for the reply, mate. I am running Vista Ultimate 64 bit on an Asus R1F tablet. There are 2 bluetooth entries in device manager, but I am not sure which stack I'm running. And, remember, FRANSON is the one who said GPSGate is not 64 bit compatible.

It is not tested on 64-bit.

If you read "Yemble"'s reply you can see that he uses the COm ports created by the WidComm stack.

Yeh, I think the Bluetooth stack is the important factor here. I started off with a cheap eBay Blue Soleil dongle and had very little luck with it under XP x64. It would connect OK, but then disconnect by itself shortly afterwards. This prompted me to shell out on a Belkin device based on the Broadcom chipset (WIDCOM drivers). It was supplied with only 32 bit drivers which did not work at all! Luckily, however, the Broadcom site does have the 64 bit drivers which work perfectly. [:)]

I can confirm that the 32 bit version of the WIDCOM stack (same revision as 64 bit - v5.1.0.3300) works perfectly with Vista Home x32, so I would be very surprised if the 64 bit stack does not work with Vista x64 - unfortunately I don't have a suitable rig to test it for you (sorry). [:(]

@Horsepower

I owe you an apology!

Having now, finally, upgraded from XP x64 to Vista x64, I am now experiencing the same 1275 error as you. The error appears at the final stage of installation, just as you click the Finish button. The effect is that virtual COM ports do not work in GpsGate (they report the same error on the GUI panel). The GpsGate output service reports Running OK and will sucessfully connect to a BT GPS as an input.

Windows reports two errors in the System log:

7000: The Franson VSerial service failed to start due to the following error: This driver has been blocked from loading

1060: \SystemRoot\SysWow64\drivers\bizVSerialNT.sys has been blocked from loading due to incompatibility with this system. Please contact your software vendor for a compatible version of the driver.

I have tried this installation several times, with and without Windows Defender enabled, however, the result is always the same. Note that my PC is logged on with the Administrator account. These errors do not occur with either Vista x32 or XP x64, just with Vista x64.

Johan, is this enough info for a fix?

I also am running Vista 64 and get the same 1275 Error:Failed to start driver. Anyone have any luck getting the driver to load? Is there an alternate driver for Vista 64? I just loaded ver. 2.6, hoping this would contain the fix, but alas, no luck...

Any suggestions?

I am having the same problem installing virtual serial port on my laptop running window vista ultimate. I tried logging on as admistrator, tried running installation as administrator, try starting the services as administrator. Well even tried the compactibility runnning as win xp and nothing seem to work. GpsGate 2.6 can pickup my bluetooth gps ok, but it can not create a virtual serial port. It must be the installation. The installation says 'error creating vitrual serial port' at the end of installation. Can someone help please??????

found a solution at last. Install Microsft Virtual Machine 2007. Then install win XP in it. in WM2007 st it for the com port that you have connected the bluetooth gps. Then run installation as usuall. And you run it in that that plateform. It now works buitifully without losing my windows vista 64 ultimate edition.

I just bought a Garmin nuvi. The Microsoft USB GPS now works with Vista 64 Ultimate. My iTrek site in a box useless.

This is unbelievably stupid. Here it is August of 2008, years after x64 processors came out and Windows x64 versions like Vista x64 came out and Franson still does not support x64. Pathetic. Ah, well... one less customer for gpsgate.

Hi Johan

Any idea when a fix to use GpsGate reliably with Vista 64 bit will be at least looked at? It seems that there is plenty of demand now including from myself.

Thanks - Richard
