Fails to create virtual serial port

Wed Jul 28, 2010 10:59 pm

I am trying to get Windows Streets and Trips 2007 to see my Pharos
GPS-BT II with GPS 500 on my new laptop running Windows 7. I have
gotten most of the way through but MS Streets and Trips still can't find the GPS.
Here is what I currently have - GPS Gate is installed and has found the GPS, the Icon has turned green.
When I open the icon the Input lists the GPS but the output says
[5} Failed to create virtual serial port as I look at each of the output virtual coms.
Can you help me understand what I am doing wrong? If we cna get it
working I'll buy the program. I'm currently using the 14 day free trial.

I am getting the same error... The whole point of trying GPSGATE was to see if it would interface my GARMIN GPS60 with Streets & Trips 2008.

I tried adding COM3 as an output port - but doing that caused Streets & Trips to no longer see the port as available.

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit, RAM: 6GB

Did you read and act on the sticky regarding virtual port driver on Vista 64 bit systems?

It applies to Windows 7 x64 as well!

Note COM 3 is often pre-assigned to built-in modem - check with Device Manager.

I had followed the proceedure listed in the sticky link. That didn't seem to fix my problem. Is there anyway to verify that it is using the 64 bit driver?

the output said
[5} Failed to create virtual serial port as I look at each of the output virtual coms.

Unfortunately now that my trial has expired. It indiactes that the license has expired.

Is there any way to verify that the change that I made per the sticky for windows 7 is working?

Wow! This must really be a big problem. I still haven't been given any assistance with this issue. I guess it must be something that isn't repairable???

Exactly the same problem, I've followed all the advice, but still get the 'Failed to create Virtual Com Port'

I've followed all the procedures to install the 64 bit driver with no successful outcome

Running Windows 7 64bit

I am seeing the same error, but it is in Win7 32bit OS.

GpsGate seemed to install fine, Green icon on tray and with system startup, it always puts up a completely blank setup page on the desktop.

WinXP Dell D800 w/BT Holux GR230

edit: Just downloaded and installed version 2.6. Virtual port was installed on next try.

Well, I experiment the same error, except that for me, it only happened after the second time I used the program. The first time after installation, it worked fine but only once.
After that successfull trial, I bought the express license, entered successfully the key they sent to me and now it is systematically
"(5) failed to create virtual serial port" !!!
Somebody could help????

OUCH, Very embarrassing...
I eventually found that my Windows 7 was not a 64 bits as I was believing.
After de-installation and registry manual cleaning, before a new standard installation, everything works fine...
Thanks Franson, your have a great product...
