AIS translation to NMEA position data

Thu Sep 03, 2009 11:01 pm

Hello there,

I'm using GPSgate 2.6 to connect a bluetooth AIS connector to an ECDIS program. This works fine.
The received data looks like this:

!AIVDM,1,1,,B,13bWHH1Oh8PA:C`Mf394ooS60000,0*44
!AIVDM,1,1,,B,381:JJ000f0>7m0MaA:9n7e00P00,0*15
!AIVDM,1,1,,B,33=k5>10040?mKHMd:2e5Gm200wh,0*6A
!AIVDM,1,1,,A,13acwV001e0?mB<MN6S54D1606;T,0*02
!AIVDO,1,1,,,13QE1D0P1j0?lS8M`FJ1hgw40000,0*69
!AIVDM,1,1,,B,402E3U1uVAiqR0?h6@MNksQ00L1u,0*7A

More or less abacadabra to me.
My question is if it is possible for GPSgate to distil the position data out of this and send this as old-fashioned NMEA data to for instance a bluetooth output port ($XXGGA sentences). I am planning to use this data with a simple chart program on a PDA.

Thanks in advance for possible solutions,
rgds

It is currently not possible, but it is an interesting idea.

See here http://www.bosunsmate.org/ais/ to decode it yourself.

Good luck [;)]
