failed to load stack driver bluetoolswc.dll reason

Thu Apr 02, 2009 8:48 pm

Hallo,
I have deployed an application on an HP iPAQ 114 classic. The app has worked well for several months, then one day it started producing the following error:

ApplicationException
Failed to load stack driver
(BlueToolsWC.dll). Reason: [193] null

in
Franson.BlueTools.Manager.GetManager()

The software environment on the iPAQ is:

Windows Mobile 6 Classic
CE 5.2.1616 (build 18120.0.4.0)
CPU: Marvell PXA310
Memory: 57.86 MB

Bluetools stack: BT-PPC Version 1.8.0 build 7000
Copyright 1999-2006 broadcom corporation

BTTray.exe 1.8.0.7000
BTConnManagerCE.exe 1.8.0.7000
BTWizardCE.exe 1.8.0.7000
BTBusinessCard.exe 1.8.0.7000
BTFileExplorer.exe 1.8.0.7000
BTPANManagerCE.exe 1.8.0.7000
BtCeStack.dll 1.8.0.7000
BeCeProfiles.dll 1.8.0.7000
BtChooserLib.dll 1.8.0.7000
BtCeSendTo_Poom.dll 1.8.0.7000
BtCeOsif4.dll 1.8.0.7000
BtRez.dll 1.8.0.7000
BtWizardProfiles.dll 1.8.0.7000
BtConfigCE.cpl 1.8.0.7000
BtDialer.dll 1.8.0.7000

I have already tried to copy in the app folder the various arm version of the bluetools dlls, but the application error remains.
I also have re-deployed the application.

The error occurred while the iPAQ was being used by the customer, not me, so I cannot be sure about exactly what was beign done when the app stopped working.

I have the "faulty" iPAQ and another, identical iPAQ where the app is running fine, with the same bluetools version.

Can somebody give me a hint about where to look ?

Thank you in advance.

The error suggests that the initialization of the stack failed, and it pretty much could not load anything.
Have you tried making a hard reset to wipe the device clean?

No, I have only reset the device via the usual "reboot" button... I was trying to avoid a hard reset because there might be data that the customer wants to keep... I'll do a backup and try.

Anyway, what I'd like to know is _why_ this error suddenly happened.

Is there some debug option I can activate in bluetools to log as much as possible and try figure out where the initialization process fails ?

Thanks.

The reason is that it cannot initialize the bluetooth stack anymore, but as for the why I have no idea.
Some bluetooth update? The stack is offline for some reason? Power management? The bluetooth stack is locked by some other application?

I have found this folder:

\Windows\AppMgr\Franson BlueTools

which has this file inside:

4D00.tmp

which cannot be deleted neither from the PDA file explorer nor from the PC.

Could this have something to do with the problem at hand ?

Thanks.

Ok, after a hard reset the app is working fine again.

Return to “BlueTools”
