Device discovery crashes in "Bluetoolsms.dll"

Fri Mar 13, 2009 5:53 pm

Hi!

We are developping a .NET FW 3.5 application for a SmartPhone that uses the Franson bluetooth component.

When we launch a DeviceDiscoveryAsync() in some environment the application crashes reporting an error at the level of the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack (Bluetoolsms.dll).

The strange thing is that only in some environments this happen.

There is some update of the Microsoft bluetooth stack ?
Can we try to use the Widcomm stack? How?
Is there any workaround we can use ?

Please help us!

You have to contact the manufacturer of the smartphone to ask for an update to the Microsoft stack.
Devices have hardware that is specifically built for a specific stack so no you can't use the Widcomm stack on a device that has the Microsoft stack.

I have seen that the "bluetoolsms.dll" (the DLL that crashes when we make a device descovery) is made by your company.

So I think that this bug MUST BE RESOLVED by you.

To reproduce the bug:
- Install the simple test application (downloadable at http://www.mediafire.com/?wzw9gz10ydz)
on a device "HTC Diamond HD" (Windows Mobile 6)
- Turns on at least 6 or 7 bluetooth discoverable devices
- Press the "Scan" button on the test application.
- If the application doesn't crashes repeats the above step up to 5 times.

The following is the snapshot of the error:

Note: We have noticed that the chances of crash increases if the device that make the Descovery is into an environment with some noise (like other PC running, some Wireless Access Point)

I will look at it this coming weekend.
I don't have neither a HTC Diamond HD or a 6-7 devices available to me though, so if I can't reproduce this, I might have to send you some trace DLLs so you can test it in your environment to determine where the crash is occuring.
