Set default bluetooth printer

Mon Apr 10, 2006 7:04 pm

Hi,

The library works fine detecting and bonding devices on my PDA (QTEK 9090). Whith the SDK, I can detect and connect a printer (brother MW-140BT) to a serial port. But the fist time I try to print, I get a screen that ask me what is the default device to use (whith a check to remember the choose).

How can I avoid this screen?

Thanks,

Carlos

Do you mean a printer screen? I guess your PDA thinks the newly created serial port must be configured or something? If you use the printer capabilities offered from the OS do you get the same screen the first time you use it?

Hi,

It could be something about bluetooth configuration after bonding the device. The screen title is "Bluetooth Console", so I think it doesn't depend on printer model.

If I check the registry before and after select the printer in this screen, I can see that the branch that is modified is SOFTWARE\Widcomm\BtConfig\AutoConnect.

Do you have any suggestion?

Carlos

I don't know if this apply for you but I found this on the Internet:

[snip]

"Bluetooth in PocketPC 2003 will always ask for a device before connecting

To stop this do the following:

Under the registry key HKLM\Software\Widcomm\BtConfig\AutoConnect\0005 or HKLM\Software\Widcomm\BtConfig\AutoConnect\0008 ;

it may be one or the other of these depending on the PDA.

Create a new DWORD value called : BtBrowserEnabled and set it to: 0

Bluetooth will now connect to a paired device without asking

Hi,

Yes, I've tried this solution before, but I doesn't work (the key in bluetooth printers is HKLM\Software\Widcomm\BtConfig\AutoConnect\0006).

I'll keep searching.

Thanks for all!

Okay, you did try to put that registry entry under 0006 as well? And still no luck? [:(]

Hi Jonas,

If you write more keys under the branch HKLM\Software\Widcomm\BtConfig\AutoConnect\0006 it appears to work. You must write ClassID, ServiceName, ... , and BtBrowserEnabled.

Thanks,

Carlos
