RE: Creating TCP/IP Client

I believe Furuno use proprietary drivers for NavNet2 which maybe explains why you can't get it to feed GpsGate under TCP/IP.

RE: Comm port in use

If the COM port GpsGate is configured to use as input is in use by another program, it won't output anything & icon will remain red. Check running GpsGate directly, not as service. With nothing connected to this COM port (to your knowledge) try checking with HyperTerminal (Programs\Accessories\Commu...

RE: Virtual Ports v. Physical Ports

Mats suggestion worked fine for me. A couple of caveats though: 1) You have to repeat the add hardware sequence for each virtual port that GpsGate has installed. 2) Windows will probably allocate a port number other than the one originally installed by GpsGate. Suggest the best way to overcome this ...

RE: GpsGate.com (BETA 2) released.

Thanks for beta 2 release of GpsGate.com plug-in. Some comments: Buddy name is truncated to 9 characters & would benefit from being a brighter colour (maybe red) to show against map background. I always see "not sending" in buddy list although I know I am sending data for sure, & map displays positi...

RE: GpsGate.com Online (BETA) released.

Maybe I'm asking this question a little soon, but do my "Buddies" need to be using GpsGate + plug-in 1.3 & sending valid GPS positions, or is it possible for them once registered with GpsGate online to just have my position displayed?

Regards - Richard

RE: Garmin and GpsGate: Incompatiblities ?

Your concern over serial port(s) on your laptop are unfound. The operating system (OS) allows for serial (COM) ports whether they are physically there or not. Most laptops don't have them physically but they can be derived from USB/COM port convertors, virtual COM port software (as built into GPS Ga...

RE: Problem connecting an iPAQ to a Laptop via WiFi

Try getting iPAQ & laptop to communicate both ways by temporarily setting up folder to share at both ends. Make sure iPAQ & laptop don't have same IP address communicating with WiFi router. If you have DHCP server in WiFi system that automatically assigns IP address, this shouldn't happen. When both...

RE: port selection for TCP/IP operations

Thanks for reply Johan & apologies for raising the issue. I now realise the $PNMLS sentence output by AIS receivers is for signal level monitoring only to minimise errors from weak signals, & not required for display purposes. I found this definition: $PNMLS,ss,tt,r*cc<CR><LF>. The field ss is a dec...

RE: port selection for TCP/IP operations

As follow up to my last post & to satisfy my curiosity I set up GpsGate with multiple inputs & allowing all NMEA sentences as follows: GPS/Boat NMEA at 4800 baud ($GP & $II prefix) receiving from COM4 AIS data at 38400 baud (!AIVDM & $PNMLS prefix) receiving from COM5 The combined output was routed ...

RE: port selection for TCP/IP operations

Not sure of results using GpsGate to mpx AIS & GPS data at different baud rates. Like Johan says, you need to experiment - would like to hear your results though. An alternative is to buy a hardware multi-baud rate multiplexor (www.actisense.com). You could also consider a USB-COM port adaptor. You ...

COM port release

Whilst experimenting with GpsGate configurations on my Acer laptop under Windows XP, I often find that my COM 1 port is shown as in use by another prog although all are closed & no process's apparently running that would require this. It often happens after using HyperTerminal on this port. Although...

RE: connect Garmin USB GPS to GPSS

Hi ajcraig Reading this thread it seems that COM3 is pre-assigned to your dial-up modem - that's why Gps Gate can't offer it as virtual COM port. Setting up HyperTerminal can be confusing - try this to monitor virtual COM port previously set up with Gps Gate: Enter name for device you want to monito...

RE: GPSgate input

Hi I asked the same question a few days ago. If you require Gps Gate to act as TCP/IP client on input, just select that option & set up IP address/port/network adaptor as appropriate. If you wish Gps Gate to act as server on input, see below for answer I was given:Posted - 08/11/2006 : 07:24:21 ----...
