Richard,

Thanks for the information - very useful. Would never have twigged that myself. I'll get a "null modem" dSub9 female to female cable and give it a go.

Hi Richard,

It's a sealed cable the pins on both ends are numbered:
5 4 3 2 1
9 8 7 6

So what you are saying is it needs to be rewired so the cable is normal on the output, but pin two and three needs to be swapped over on the input?

I am using hyper terminal at 9600.

I have set up the application and can get an output runnning through virtual COM Ports for installed applications ie input via usb GPS dongle output to Virtual COM10, memory map recieves input from COM10.
